30 In Police Custody Following St James Crackdown

At least 30 people in St. James were taken into police custody today, as part of police operations to control crime in the parish.

That’s according to Head of the St. James Police, Senior Superintendent Marlon Nesbeth. The 30 people were taken into custody as part of a pre-dawn operation that’s still underway.

SSP Nesbeth says some will be charged with lottery scamming and other offences.

Mere hours after the passing of Hurricane Matthew, violence erupted in the parish again. In Flanker, two people were yesterday injured and one killed in a drive by-shooting. The police say this stemmed from an ongoing gang feud.

SSP Nesbeth says one person wanted in relation to the incident has been arrested.

The Flanker Health Center has been closed as a result the ongoing violence. SSP Nesbeth says police presence in the community has been increased.

He believes the health centre can now be re-opened.
