6 Died From Flu Virus In 2019


Health and Wellness Minister, Dr Christopher Tufton, says 6 people died from the flu virus last year.

He was providing an update in Parliament yesterday on the impact of the influenza virus on the nation.

Minister Tufton says the flu is no joke and could pose serious risks for the elderly, children and pregnant women, healthcare workers and persons with chronic illnesses.

He’s appealing to persons who fall within the high-risk groups to get vaccinated.

The Health and Wellness Minister also highlighted the limited take up of vaccines for the influenza virus last year.

Dr. Tufton’s also encouraging private healthcare providers to procure the vaccine through private distributors for their patients.

And, he’s reminding Jamaicans of steps to take if they’re exposed to the influenza virus.
