JISCO Is Here for the Long Term – Minister Montague


Mining Minister, Robert Montague, says he’s assured that JISCO will be in Jamaica for the long term, based on the massive investments it has made so far in Alpart.

He says JISCO has so far spent over US$400-million on the plant.

He says the Chinese owners are also expected to spend another US$500 to $600-million to modernise the refinery.

Minister Montague says over 900 containers with equipment for the upgrade refinery has already been shipped.

The Mining Minister says he’ll be meeting with the Trade Unions again this afternoon, as discussions continue in relation to the interest of the workers at Alpart.

He also disclosed that the Unions have given a commitment to maintain industrial peace for 2-years.
