Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) says it’s registered 9,000 new taxpayers so far this financial year.
Deputy Commissioner General in charge of Strategic Services at the TAJ, Hank Williams, says the agency has outperformed its target.
Meanwhile, Country Managing Partner and Tax Partner at Ernst and Young, Allison Peart, says the government is not charging enough for property taxes. She says that’s compounded by the large number of non-compliant property taxpayers.
She’s suggesting the government consider the introduction of new measures to penalize non-compliant property taxpayers.
