The Amaterra Group has launched plans to build 8,000 hotel rooms in Jamaica as part of a multi-billion dollar project.
800 rooms will be built in Stewart Castle in the first phase of the integrated resort development.
The hotel will boast an industrial park, an entertainment and shopping complex and various local amenities.
The project also includes construction of several villas, condominiums, entertainment parks, and commercial facilities.
It will also see the building of a special economic zone for logistics along with Business Process Outsourcing and manufacturing facilities.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness addressed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Amaterra Group Hotel project in Stewart Castle Trelawny.
He commended the investors.
Prime Minister Holness said the government is moving to ensure that as many Jamaican workers as possible benefit from the investment.
Amaterra Jamaica Ltd is a mixed-use land development company which was incorporated in Jamaica in 2002.
The company has engaged several international investors and is the master developer for the Amaterra resort and related companies.
The development project is the vision of Trelawny businessman and developer Keith Russell.
