Youth Minister Lisa Hanna says representatives of the Child Development Agency have been dispatched to the Rio Cobre Juvenile Correctional Centre in St. Catherine, following the death of a 15-year-old male ward of the state last Friday.
The Department of Correctional Services says the boy’s body was found in the afternoon, hanging in the bathroom of the facility.
The Ministry of National Security, under whose purview correctional facilities fall, says its Inspectorate Unit and the Police are carrying out investigations.
Minister Hanna says the CDA team has been working with officials at the facility since Sunday.

Meanwhile Children’s Advocate Diahann Gordon Harrison says her office will be launching its own probe into the matter.
Mrs. Gordon Harrison says the OCA is working with the Department of Corrections to see how they can avoid another tragedy.

Meanwhile Head of the St. Catherine North Division, Senior Superintendent Marlon Nesbeth, says the police suspect the ward may have committed suicide.
