Aquatic Association President Appeals For Atkinson To Get Statue

In an earlier interview, president of the Aquatic Sports Association of Jamaica, Martin Lyn, reiterated his appeal for a statue to be erected at Independence Park in honour of Alia Atkinson.

Atkinson represented Jamaica at the 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympics.

She became the first black woman to win a swimming title when she won the 100-metres breaststroke at the 2014 World Short Course Championships.

Lyn says his administration would welcome such a gesture in honour of Jamaica’s most recognizable figure in Swimming.

Lyn says better promotion of other sports would further build brand Jamaica.
