Director of Corporate Communication and Public Relations at the Department of Correctional Services, Dexter Thompson says a number of their facilities are now double the capacity.

He made the disclosure on Cliff Hughes Online this morning during its outside broadcast at Spanish Town Prison Oval in St. Catherine.

The issue of overcrowding has been a longstanding issue in the nation’s correctional centres and lock ups.

He says the correctional centre based in St. Catherine is also marginally over capacity.

But he says there’re other low risk centres that aren’t facing capacity issues.
