Several notable figures, as well as Jamaicans from all walks of life, turned out for the unveiling of the Usain Bolt statue at a grand ceremony at Independence Park Limited, on Sunday.
The statue was unveiled to Bolt by Prime Minister Andrew Holness; Sports Minister, Olivia Grange and sculptor, Basil Watson.
Among the other invited guests were NACAC President, Victor Lopez, President of the Jamaica Olympic Association, Christopher Samuda; JAAA president Dr. Warren Blake and Leader of the Opposition, Dr. Peter Phillips.
They all echoed the same sentiment that Bolt is truly deserving of this honor.
Bolt says it was a surreal feeling to have his statue erected at the stadium complex.
The 31-year-old says his life is a perfect example why everyone should follow their dreams.
The World’s fastest man praised Watson for his work on the statue
Prime Minister Holness says the statue will serve as a motivation for generations to come.
Mr. Holness says the government intends to upgrading Independence Park to international standard in order to host major track and field competition.
