People’s National Party (PNP) Member of Parliament for North West St Ann, Dr Dayton Campbell is withdrawing statements he made at a mass rally in Port Antonio, East Portland on Sunday.
Dr. Campbell had raised eyebrows when he suggested that people interested in taking over Dr. Lynvale Bloomfield’s East Portland seat murdered the MP.
Speaking with our news centre yesterday, Dr. Campbell says he withdraws his comments after they were misinterpreted.
Dr. Campbell says he’s aware that someone has been charged for Dr. Bloomfield’s murder. He says his statement on Sunday was only meant as a rallying cry for PNP supporters in the constituency.
Political Ombudsman, Donna Parchment Brown, says she spoke with the PNP regarding Dr. Campbell’s statement before he withdrew it.
Mrs. Parchment Brown says she’s spoken with Dr. Campbell about being more careful with his utterances.
