A curfew that was imposed in the Cassava Piece area has been extended until 6 o’clock this evening.
The police imposed the curfew last Thursday following a flare-up of violence in the area.
The Cassava Piece community, the hometown of dancehall artiste, Mavado, remains tense following a recent incident in which the deejay was shot at by a gangster from the area.
Since that shooting, a man who’s said to be aligned to gunmen who opened fire on the deejay was also brutally murdered in Cassava Piece last Tuesday.
The following day, a woman and a man were left nursing gunshot wounds. The police then imposed a curfew which began at 6 o’clock last Thursday evening.
It was to remain in effect until 6:00 Saturday evening. But it has since been extended.
Meanwhile, over in the neighbouring parish of St. Catherine, a curfew that was imposed in sections of Gregory Park in the parish from last Tuesday has also been extended.
The curfew is now slated to end 6 o’clock this evening. This is the second extension of the curfew in Gregory Park.
Sections of Gregory Park have also been tense following a flare-up of violence.
Last week, the police killed the alleged leader of the Compound Gang, 20-year-old Demar Montaque also called Eddie of Gregory Park in Portmore.
