President of the Caribbean Development Bank, CDB, Dr. Warren Smith, says the regional bank will be providing funding to create several Junior Stock Exchanges around the region, modeled off Jamaica’s successful junior market.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the CDB’s annual Board of Governors’ meeting this morning, Dr. Smith says the CDB wants to play a bigger role in unleashing the potential of micro, small and medium-sized businesses in the region.

Our Business and Finance Editor, Kalilah Reynolds, is covering the meetings in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

Dr. Smith says the CDB wants to develop an ecosystem where small businesses can thrive.

He says they’ll be providing the money and technical assistance.

He says they’ll also be providing funds to help develop junior stock exchanges like Jamaica’s across the Caribbean.

It’s a recommendation that Trinidad & Tobago’s Finance Minister,Colm Imbert, says he’s willing to take on board.
