Acting Prime Minister, Dr. Horace Chang is rejecting calls from the Opposition, People’s National Party, PNP, for a public enquiry into issues facing the ailing Cornwall Regional Hospital in St James.
PNP President and Opposition Leader, Dr Peter Phillips, made the call on Tuesday following a tour of the hospital. Dr. Chang called the notion of an inquiry a ‘blame game’.
The senior politician who is also General Secretary of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party and MP for North West St James says the issues at Cornwall Regional will be addressed.
Meanwhile, Dr. Tufton says the questions being raised should focus on the failure to properly maintain the facility.
The Health Minister also says he’s disappointed with the Opposition’s insistence on shutting down the only type A facility in western Jamaica.
Meanwhile, Dr Chang, who’s a medical doctor, says it would have been ill-conceived to shut down the facility in the recommended 10 days.
