China’s Ambassador to Jamaica, Niu Qingbao, has confirmed that the Montego Bay bypass in St James will be funded by the Government of China.
The bypass is aimed at reducing peak hour traffic congestion in the western city.
Work is expected to begin on the bypass road next year by a Chinese company.
Mr Qingbao, who was delivering the keynote address at the inaugural staging of the Mayor’s Charity Ball, hosted by Mayor of Montego Bay, Homer Davis, pointed out that the money will be a preferential loan at a very low-interest rate.
The Mayor’s charity ball was held at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St James on Saturday.
