Chinese Ambassador to Jamaica, Niu Qingbao, is urging Jamaica to be more aggressive in trying to tap into what he says is an expanding Chinese market for Jamaica’s Blue Mountain Coffee.
He was speaking last night at a Coffee Symposium which was organized by the Member of Parliament for East Rural St. Andrew, the JLP’s Juliet Holness.
Niu Qingbao says consumption of coffee in China is expanding rapidly.
In the meantime, Mrs. Holness welcomed the comments of the Chinese Ambassador. She told the symposium that the Government is moving to ensure it fills the demand for coffee in the Chinese market.
Mrs. Holness says Jamaica appreciates the contribution of the Japanese to development of the local coffee industry but recognizes that there’s a need for diversification.
