The Prime Minister’s recent decision to relieve embattled Cabinet Minister, Dr Andrew Wheatley, of the energy portfolio is being criticized by a number of political commentators.
Political Analyst, Dr Paul Ashley, is describing the move by Prime Minister Andrew Holness as mild.
He says stripping Dr Wheatley of the energy portfolio, thus keeping him as Minister of Science and Technology, isn’t enough to reflect personal responsibility or accountability.
Dr Ashley is calling for a full investigation not only at the State-owned oil refinery, Petrojam, but also a probe into the Petrocaribe Development Fund.

Meanwhile, UWI lecturer, Professor Donna Hope, admits she’s not impressed with the way the matter was handled by the Prime Minister.
In the meantime, Political Analyst, Nadene Spence, says she too isn’t satisfied with the way the Prime Minister handled the situation concerning Dr. Wheatley.
She was also dissatisfied with the manner in which the outgoing Energy Minister responded to questions yesterday which were tabled by the Opposition some three weeks ago.
Ms. Spence says there’s need for a closer look at how public boards function and the level of political input into their functions.
