Consumer Price Index Up O.5% in May

The Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) says the Consumer Price Index increased by 0.5% for May.

STATIN attributes the movement to higher prices for vegetables and starchy foods as well as ‘Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels’.

However, STATIN says this movement was tempered by a fall of 1.7 per cent in the index for the group ‘Water Supply and Miscellaneous Services Related to the Dwelling’.

STATIN says the Inflation rate for the calendar year-to-date is 0.1 per cent.

It says the fiscal year-to-date inflation is 0.7 per cent.

The inflation rate for the point-to-point period was 4.0 per cent.
