“I need East Portland more than it needs me!”
That’s the declaration from People’s National Party standard-bearer for East Portland Damion Crawford as he launched a verbal attack on his Jamaica Labour Party contender Ann Marie Vaz.
At a PNP mass rally last evening Mr Crawford told comrades that Mrs Vaz and her husband cannot relate to the people, as he can, due to a class difference. The strident Crawford also suggested that the Vaz’s are scammers.
In a speech that lasted about 45 minutes and got more cheers from most of the audience but not as many from his fellow comrades on the stage, Mr Crawford lashed Mrs Vaz for her ‘class’ and ‘colour’.
He also raised concerns about Mrs Vaz’s credibility.
Mr Crawford also explained why it took him some time to decide if he would contest the East Portland by election.
Mr Crawford recently told Nationwide News that if he lost this by election he may retire from representational politics. But he told comrades last evening that he needed this victory.
And he outlined some of the plans he has to improve the constituency, if given the nod.
