The Jamaica Customs Agency, JCA, has received several reports of individuals who’ve been scammed by persons claiming to be licensed brokers.
Chief Executive Officer and Commissioner of Customs, Major Richard Reese, says the Agency is urging the public to use licensed customs brokers when importing or exporting goods.
Commissioner Reese says we do have instances where individuals purport to be brokers or broker clerks and importers end up getting fleeced, primarily with motor vehicle imports.
Mr. Reese says a number of investigations are underway with the police and they’ve been successful in apprehending most of the scammers.
Commissioner Reese says the public should check the gazetted list of licensed customs brokers before entering into any agreement with a customs broker to import or export.
