Energy Minister, Dr Andrew Wheatley, has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against South St. Andrew Member of Parliament and PNP Treasurer, Mark Golding.
A post appeared on Mr. Golding’s Facebook page two weeks ago where Golding mentioned Dr Wheatley and commented on the arrest of a man.
The multi-million dollar lawsuit was filed this afternoon in the Supreme Court in downtown, Kingston by Minister Wheatley’s lawyers, Carolyn Reid-Cameron and Chuck Cameron.
In the particulars of claim form, the Attorneys say Mr. Golding used his Facebook account in an attempt to discredit and destroy the Energy Minister’s integrity.
Dr. Wheatley is seeking general and exemplary damages. He’s also seeking aggravated damages.
The Energy Minister has also asked the Court to grant an injunction restraining Mr Golding from republishing the alleged defamatory words.
Minister Wheatley’s attorneys say Mr. Golding has refused to apologize and has knowingly exposed his defamatory comments to over 6-thousand people.
Dr. Wheatley’s legal team says Golding’s Facebook post caused the Energy Minister and South Central St. Catherine MP, professional harm and embarrassment.
According to the Attorneys, the Energy Minister was bombarded by calls from friends, associates, acquaintances and various media personalities who enquired about Golding’s comments.
Dr. Wheatley appeared on Nationwide Radio recently and vowed to make Golding pay a price for what he described as an attack on his character.
