Opposition Leader, Dr. Peter Phillips is criticizing the Andrew Holness administration for its management of the bauxite industry.
Dr. Phillips says the administration has failed to collect a levy from bauxite operations.
His comments come amid growing concerns about the future of the JISCO Alpart alumina plant in St. Elizabeth.
JISCO has announced it’s cutting production and delaying upgrade of the refinery until 2020.
It’s also emerged that the company is considering closing the refinery for up to a year to carry out the upgrade.
Some 400 temporary workers have already been laid off in the process.
JISCO’s Chairman, Dexin Chen, is in Jamaica to meet with stakeholders and is expected to pronounce on the future of Alpart.
Dr. Phillips says it’s time to review the bauxite industry.
He was speaking at the PNP’s North West Manchester Constituency Conference over the weekend.
