Principal of the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, Dr. Nicholeen DeGrasse-Johnson, says she received a formal complaint of sexual harrassment against a professor at the institution almost two years ago.

She revealed that this is the same professor who has now been accused of sexual harassment by four individuals last month.

Dr. Degrasse-Johnson told today’s sitting of the PAAC that he was given a warning at the time.

Chairman of the school’s board, Marigold Harding, had previously told our News Centre that the principal told the board that she did not receive any formal complaints before now.

Neika Lewis tells us more.

Dr. DeGrasse-Johnson told the PAAC that a faculty member brought several complaints to her against the accused professor.

The Principal then stated she heard nothing more after that.

However, PAAC Member Leslie Campbell, grilled Dr. Degrasse Johnson for several minutes, after which the principal said she asked the faculty member to get the statements from the complainants.

This resulted in one written formal complaint.

A clearly furious Leslie Campbell questioned what actions the Principal pursued at that time.

Dr. Degrasse Johnson says at that point she took the accused professor aside and warned him.

She says this course of action was taken because of what she describes as a lack of evidence.

Previously, the Chairman of Edna Manley College, Marigold Harding, told Nationwide News, that when the Principal was asked she told the board that this year was was the first she was informed of the professors’ alleged behavior.
