Both the Office of the Political Ombudsman and the Electoral Office of Jamaica are claiming a successful end to today’s by-elections.
Polls closed at five this afternoon in both the Constituency of North West St. Andrew and the Norman Gardens Division.
Political Ombudsman, Donna Parchment Brown, told our news centre that despite a shooting incident in the Marverly community of North West St. Andrew this morning, voting went smoothly.
Director of Elections, Orette Fisher also says election day activities went smoothly. He says all polls opened on time with voting taking place throughout the day.
However, he says turnout for both by-elections up to 3PM was below 20 percent of the 40,000 registered voters eligible to participate.
