The Economic Programme Oversight Committee (EPOC) is anticipating a slight decrease in GDP growth for the 2019/2020 fiscal year.
According to EPOC, Chairman, Keith Duncan, downtime due to upgrades at the bauxite-alumina plant, Alpart.
The reopening and operations at Alpart has significantly contributed to the GDP growth of the country over the past two years.
However, Mr. Duncan made it clear the rest of the economy is performing with other sectors such as tourism expected to record increased growth. He’s optimistic about the growth in the long term to flow from special economic zone activities to come on stream.
However, he says it’s important that Jamaicans take advantage of the activities.
Meanwhile, Mr. Duncan in assessing the budget for fiscal year 2019/2020, described it as conservative and responsible.
