Finance Minister Urges Universities To Commercialize Research

Finance and Public Service Minister, Dr Nigel Clarke, is charging research institutions in Jamaica to actively pursue ways of commercializing their work.

The Finance Minister says research is necessary to drive innovation and entrepreneurship.

Dr Clarke says it’s an element Jamaica needs to work on if it’s to realize its full potential.

He says the government is partnering with the Inter-American Development Bank, IDB through the Development Bank of Jamaica, DBJ to accomplish this goal.

Meanwhile, Minister Clarke says he’s motivated by the revelation that the Vice Chancellor of Cambridge University was awarded businessman of the year several years ago.

He says the university’s scientific and digital breakthroughs have yielded much profit.

Dr Clarke says Jamaican research can do just as well.
