Fire Causes $75 million Damage at Mobay Shoes Market

A fire which started in the wee hours of this morning has destroyed a large section of the Shoes Market on South Street in Montego Bay, St. James.

The St. James Fire Department says it responded immediately to a call at around 2:15 this morning.

Acting Deputy Superintendent at the St. James Fire Department Vincent Allen says he cannot say how many shops were destroyed.

He says fire personnel have not been able to ascertain the cause of the blaze.

He’s commending the swift response of fire personnel, who he says were able to prevent more shops from being damaged.
