FLA Launches Investigation into Gowans’ Firearm Reports

CEO of the Firearm Licensing Authority, FLA, Shane Dalling says they’ve launched an investigation to find out if the entity had received any reports from the Police regarding Patrick Gowans.

Mr Gowans shot his wife dead on Wednesday and then turned the gun on himself. It’s understood the Police had confiscated then returned the licensed firearm of Mr. Gowans.

Mr. Dalling says under a new protocol, the Police are expected to submit all reports regarding licensed firearm holders to the Authority which would trigger their investigations.

Mr. Dalling says he’s uncertain whether or not the Police had communicated with the FLA about the incidents involving Mr. Gowans.

The incident regarding Mr. Gowans is the fourth domestic matter involving a licensed firearm holder this year.

Mr. Dalling says when those issues were reported, the firearm of the holder was revoked.

The concerned FLA CEO says they’re now also investigating other matters.

Meanwhile, since the incident, Mr. Dalling says they’ve started discussions with the Police to improve how quickly the Authority receives reports.
