A former Jamaican beauty queen has been arrested in New York, after she tried to smuggle 68 pounds of cocaine in her luggage through the Los Angeles International Airport.
The woman, 32-year-old Marsha Gaye Reynolds, was a runner up in the Miss Jamaica World pageant in 2008.
She’s been working as a flight attendant for Jet Blue Airlines.
Ms. Reynolds allegedly wore her crew member badge in an attempt to avoid screening. But new security rules have seen increased screening of airline workers in recent times.
According to NBC News, Reynolds ditched her luggage and her size 8-and-a-half leather Gucci shoes, when asked to step aside by security personnel.
She then ran down an up escalator, and out of the building.
Airport security agents searched Reynolds’ bags and found clothes, Trojan Magnum condoms and 68-pounds of cocaine wrapped in green saran wrap and labeled “BIG Ranch.”
After fleeing the airport, Reynolds reportedly boarded a flight to New York and went to her Queens apartment before holing up in the Hilton Hotel near JFK Airport.
Reynolds is listed on the website of New York University as a member of their 2004 women’s track-and-field team.
