President of the young professional arm of the JLP, Generation 2000, Stephen Edwards, is defending the decision of the Holness administration to reject the offer from the United Kingdom government to help build a modern state of the art prison.
He says the deal would’ve resulted in higher taxes for Jamaicans.
Mr. Edwards says the government has far more pressing matters to attend to at this time.
And, Mr. Edwards says the government was not ignoring the conditions at the prisons.
Persons who’re in support of the government accepting the UK prison offer have been asking about plans by the administration to deal with the problem of overcrowding in prisons.
