The government has signed an agreement with the Inter-American Development Bank, IDB, to craft a 10-year development plan for the health sector.
The IDB is providing USD$250,000 for the development of the plan.
Health Minister Horace Dalley says the plan will focus mainly on the continued roll-out of the Primary Healthcare Renewal Programme and Non Communicable Diseases.
This includes improving the management and use of resources and ensuring that all points of entry into the healthcare system can offer the basic package of services.
An Oversight Steering Committee has also been established to ensure that the plan is non partisan and developed objectively, based on scientific evidence.
The Committee includes personnel from the Government, the Opposition, international partners, the medical profession, academia, the private sector, a user of health facilities and the main health associations.
