Foreign Affairs Minister, Kamina Johnson Smith, says the government is committed to the Jamaican Diaspora.
She says this is evident from the creation of a new Diaspora Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
She was speaking at a press conference last week at her Ministry’s New Kingston Office.
The Minister also announced a new Diaspora Engagement Taskforce chaired by former Senator, Dr. David Panton, in conjunction with the Economic Growth Council.
Meanwhile, Minister Johnson Smith is dismissing criticisms from the Opposition Spokesman on Foreign Affairs, Morais Guy, regarding the completion of the National Diaspora Policy legislation.
Dr. Guy has accused the government of dragging its feet on the policy.
However, Minister Johnson Smith says the draft must be reviewed by the Diaspora Taskforce before being tabled in Parliament.
