The Ministry of Education says it will establish strict protocols to govern the process by which foreign entities can recruit Jamaican teachers.
Education Minister, Ronald Thwaites, says this is among the measures being implemented to address the poaching of the country’s best science and mathematics teachers.
He says 500 teachers of both subject areas were recruited by foreign entities between 2014 and 2015.
Minister Thwaites was forced to revise his plan to pay science and math teachers more to stay home, after strong objections from the Jamaica Teachers Association.
He says the Ministry will be looking to use a programme of incentives to encourage student-teachers to study mathematics and science.
