Gov’t Moving Quickly to Re-introduce NIDS – OPM

Press Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, OPM, Naomi Francis says the government’s moving swiftly to modify legislation for the National Identification System, NIDS.

This after the Constitutional Court struck down the National Identification and Registration Act, NIRA in April. The Court had ruled in favour of the Opposition PNP.

It ruled that aspects of the bill were null, void and infringed on the Constitutional rights of citizens.

The NIRA gives rise to the proposed NIDS.

The Andrew Holness led administration had promised to revisit aspects of the bill to reintroduce it.

She however refrained from giving a specific timeframe for the bill to be reintroduced.
