Agriculture Minister, Audley Shaw, says the government will be moving to provide financial help registered farmers who were affected by recent heavy rainfall.
The persistent rains affected Jamaica for several days.
Minister Shaw says apart from the recent trough which affected some crops and livestock – the rainfall this year has been satisfactory.
Minister Shaw made the disclosure during a statement to the House of Representatives today. He also outlined other plans to help farmers.
Mr. Shaw says an assessment by the Meteorological Service showed that 10-parishes were affected by the heavy rainfall.
He says the Rural Agricultural Development Authority, RADA, conducted an assessment of the damage.
And Opposition Spokesman on Agriculture, Dr. Fenton Ferguson, is urging the Government to also allocate money to repair farm roads damaged by the recent rainfall.
Dr. Ferguson also called on the Government to provide help to fisherfolk.
