Grammy Award-Winning Artiste and Jamaican Actor, Louie Rankin, Has Died

The international media is reporting that well known Jamaican actor and Grammy Award-winning artiste, Louie Rankin, has died.

Rankin, who was born in Kingston, died following a car crash in Canada on Monday.

Rankin’s executive assistant with whom he shares children, confirmed his death on Instagram, sharing a slideshow of photos of them together.

Rankin is most known for his role as a Jamaican drug lord Lennox otherwise known as Ox in Belly — a 1998 film.

Rankin received a Grammy award in 1992 for his track, ‘Typewriter’ as well as appearing in movies such as Shottas, in 2002, and We Run These Streets, in 2014.

Just one day before his death, Rankin announced on Instagram that he was in Toronto filming a movie.

During the course of last night and this morning – several Entertainment stars in Jamaica and overseas, including – DJ Khaled, Shaggy, Bounty Killer and Vybz Kartel posted on social media expressing shock at Rankin’s death
