Guy Calls for Review of NHT Points System

Central St. Mary Member of Parliament and Opposition Spokesman on Housing, Dr. Morais Guy, is calling for the National Housing Trust, NHT, to amend its current points system which determines who gets access to housing financing.

Dr. Guy says the system is disenfranchising low-income contributors to the NHT – especially those outside of urban areas in Jamaica.

Dr. Guy was addressing the House of Representatives recently. He was contributing to a motion raised by Central St. James MP, Heroy Clarke, which called for the NHT Act to be amended to give low-income earners easier access to housing loans.

Debate on the motion is to resume in the next few weeks.
