Government Senator, Matthew Samuda says it’s time for the Jamaican State to send a powerful signal to authority figures who use their influence to silence and abuse the nation’s children.
Senator Samuda was making his contribution to the State of the Nation debate yesterday in the Senate.
He told the Upper House he’s troubled by a series of recent reports where authority figures, including clergymen, have been accused and some convicted of abusing children within their care.
Senator Samuda also called for Jamaica to resume capital punishment.
The Senator says he recognizes some people may not agree with his call for a resumption of capital punishment.
