The Ministry of Health is appealing to pregnant women and all persons with chronic illnesses who may live in flood prone or low lying areas, to seek shelter near a health facility.
This includes those with illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and asthma, who live in ares that may be cut off due to heavy rainfall.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Winston de la Haye, is also reminding persons with chronic diseases who have to evacuate their homes, to ensure that they take their medications to their place of shelter.
Dr. De la Haye says hospitals and health centres are equipped to deal with a potential increase in emergencies as a result of the storm.
The Ministry of Health is also reminding all persons to take every precaution to safeguard health and life and to listen to medical advisories as the country prepares for the severe weather expected to affect the island.
