The Health Ministry says it’s getting more vaccines in preparation for the flu season.
Director of Family Health Services, Dr. Simone Spence says the demand for vaccinations by public health workers has increased this year.
Dr. Spence says the Ministry is focused on having enough vaccines for the most vulnerable.
Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton says far more persons in the public health sector are taking the flu season seriously. He says seven persons died from the flu last season.
Dr. Tufton says the Ministry is taking precautions as the flu affected nearly 18-hundred persons last year.
He also revealed that $52-million in grant funding from the Centre for Disease Control will be used to support the Ministry’s efforts.
The influenza season started just over a week ago and may go up to March 2017.
Dr. Spence and Minister Tufton were speaking yesterday at a press conference at the Ministry of Health’s head office in Kingston.
