Heavy rainfall in Western St. Ann today, resulted in some schools closing their doors at noon.
Mayor of St. Ann’s Bay, Michael Belnavis, says sections of the parish have been getting a battering from heavy rainfall since last week.
He says the latest bout of rains started late yesterday and has resulted in destruction in Ocho Rios, Brown’s Town and Alexandria. He describes the pattern of rainfall as ‘eery’.
Among the schools that were closed are York Castle High and St. Hilda’s High.
Mayor Belnavis says tourism is also being negatively impacted by the persistent, heavy rainfall. He says several guest houses have reported flooding.
Mr Belnavis says the rainfall has also hampered relief efforts in some areas.
