Holness Commits to Helping MoBay Following Flooding

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says he’ll be having discussions with Social Security Minister, Shahine Robinson, about assistance which may be given to homeowners in Montego Bay who’ve suffered damage to their property.

The Prime Minister says the administration is committed to helping people in Montego Bay where it can. He says he’s awaiting an assessment from the National Works Agency about the extent of the damage.

Mr. Holness says, hopefully, there will be no more intense weather conditions and Montego Bay will be back to normal in a few days.

The Prime Minister says he’s been advised that what transpired in Montego Bay yesterday was unusual.

Mr. Holness says losses and recovery will have a fiscal impact on the treasury.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Holness says there are lessons for residents and the Government of Jamaica to learn from the increasing frequency of severe weather events which have been affecting sections of the island in recent times.

Mr. Holness says he cannot recall seeing so many adverse weather systems affecting the Region in such a short space of time.
