Hurricane Warning Continues as Hurricane Matthew Approaches

The Hurricane Center in the United States says the powerful Category 4 storm is now moving slowly in a Westerly direction.

That’s closer to Jamaica.

Earlier today, Matthew was said to be drifting away from the island.

However in its latest update issued at 10:00 this morning Jamaica time, 11:00 in the Easter Caribbean – the Hurricane Center said over the previous three hours Matthew had changed direction and is slowing drifting to the West.

As of 10:00 this morning Matthew was centered approximately 310 miles South East of Kingston Jamaica. The system is 340 miles south-southwest of Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

The center of the system is expected to pass near to the East of Jamaica on Monday.

Gusty winds and Tropical Storm conditions are being forecast for Jamaica tonight into tomorrow morning when conditions are expected to further deteriorate.

Head of the Forecasting Department at the Met Center, Lawrence Brown, says Matthew is now slowly drifting West with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph.
