General Manager of the Caribbean Group of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Therese Turner-Jones, has confirmed there’s a deadline for the consideration of an $8-billion loan for the implementation of the National Identification system.
The IDB board will have its final meeting for the year on December 13.
Speaking with Nationwide News yesterday, Mrs. Turner Jones says failure to meet the deadline means the IDB board would have to consider the loan next year.
Mrs. Turner Jones explained that the issue is not that Jamaica would lose the funding but that there’ll be a delay in approval.
She says for the approval to be granted the legislation needs to be in place.
