Integrated Resource Plan Promises Cheaper Energy

Energy Minister, Dr. Andrew Wheatley, says the government’s soon to be launched Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) will help develop the country’s energy industry and provide cheaper, alternative energy sources.

He says the Integrated Resource Plan is key to assessing and planning the country’s long-term energy needs.

Minister Wheatley was speaking at a breakfast meeting with key stakeholders of the IRP.

The meeting was held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston last week.

The IRP is a roadmap for meeting Jamaica’s electricity grid objectives over the next 20 years.

Dr. Wheatley says it will better inform all stakeholders about the roles they’ll play in developing the country’s energy generation.

He says Jamaica has been dependent on fossil fuels for far too long.

This is great, I hope that we follow up on this road map. And meet the targets when they arise.
