Jamaica now has a one-stop publication for essential data on the economy.
The Bank of Jamaica, BOJ, yesterday launched the National Summary Data Page.
It will be posted on the websites of the BOJ, STATIN and the Ministry of Finance and Public Service.
Jamaica is the first Caribbean country and the second in the Western Hemisphere to implement the International Monetary Fund’s Enhanced General Data Dissemination System.
It was endorsed by the IMF’s Executive Board in May, 2015.
BOJ Governor, Brian Wynter, says this will allow the public to access the most up-to-date data for all the agencies on a single page.
He says the data page will help improve Jamaica’s credit rating.
And, the International Monetary Fund has hailed the launch of the system in Jamaica.
In a release yesterday, it says making this information available to all users will bring greater data transparency.
It’s welcomed the moves as a ‘major milestone’ in the country’s statistical development.
The IMF says it’s pleased that Jamaica is among the first group of countries worldwide to implement the system.
