Jamaica’s among the countries that spend the highest percentage of its earnings on crime.
That’s one of the findings of a new study by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
The study is called “Restoring Paradise in the Caribbean: Combating Violence with Numbers”.
Co-author of the study, Heather Sutton, says Jamaica’s spending on crime is high compared to other countries in the region.
Sutton says although Jamaica is spending a lot on national security, the country is not seeing results in crime reduction.
She says that’s because the money isn’t being spent in the right areas.
She says it would be more cost effective to target specific locations with high crime.
