Jamaica’s Rifle Team Blows Competition Away in Barbados

Jamaica’s National Rifle Team delivered an outstanding performance at the West Indies Fullbore Shooting Championships, taking the top three spots in the Tyro Class in Barbados.

The Jamaicans were among 80 marksmen who made up teams from Guyana, Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda, Trinidad and Tobago and a goodwill squad from Canada.

In the Tyro Class, which is contested by beginners, Jamaica completed the sweep with female shooter, Nicola Guy winning with a score of 330.11.

compatriots Brandon Burrell was second with Phillip Scott third.

Guy, who was lining up in her first major competition, claimed her first regional title after being involved in the sport for only six months.

Jamaica also won the “O” Class, which is the intermediate competition, as Karen Anderson pulled off a stunning finish. After a disappointing first day, with average shooting over the first two ranges, Anderson rebounded to score 48.5 out of 50.
