The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission, JCDC, is mourning the passing of its Executive Director Dr. Delroy Gordon, who died early this morning.
It’s understood that Dr. Gordon died suddenly at the Port Maria Hospital in St. Mary at approximately 3:45 AM.
Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, paid tribute to Dr. Gordon in a statement to the media this afternoon.
He describes him as a ‘visionary leader who contributed significantly to Jamaica’s cultural development’.
He’s offered condolences to his immediate family and the JCDC as they mourning his passing.
Prime Minister Holness says Dr. Gordon worked assiduously to promote Jamaica’s cultural heritage locally and internationally, adding that his work will always be remembered and appreciated.
Culture Minister, Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange, has also paid tribute to Dr. Gordon. She says it’ll be a difficult period for the board and staff of the JCDC.
And, former Minister of Culture, Lisa Hanna, has expressed shock and sadness at Dr. Gordon’s passing.
She says the country has lost a true patriot who was dedicated to high quality service to the people of Jamaica.
Meanwhile, Chairman of JCDC, Hugh Nash, says Dr. Gordon fell ill while on the job.
He says Dr. Gordon had been suffering from headaches and hypertension over a long period. He says his death is a great loss.
Mr. Nash says Dr. Gordon will be remembered for his long and distinguished service at the JCDC dating back to over 25-years.
