JISCO Alpart, Unions Reach Settlement

General Secretary of the National Workers Union, NWU, Granville Valentine says they’ve reached a settlement in the dispute over an impending redundancy exercise with the management of the bauxite plant in Nain, St. Elizabeth.

The settlement was reached yesterday afternoon, after another lengthy meeting with JISCO.

He says among the other agreements, the workers who’ve been made redundant will be given first preference for employment when the plant is back in full operation.

He says they’ve also decided to meet more often in an effort to improve communication.

A lack of communication by the management of Alpart has been a key issue raised by the Unions in recent months.
