JLP & PNP Agree to Cancel Final Mass Rallies

The Jamaica Labour Party and the People’s National Party have both agreed to cancel tonight’s planned mass rallies.

The rallies were to be the final mass gatherings as the contentious campaign for the East Portland by election draws to a close.

The JLP had been granted permit to host their rally in Port Antonio Square tonight. But the Police expressed concerns when the PNP subsequently requested to host a rally in the nearby Folly area of the parish.

JLP General Secretary Dr Horace Chang says both parties met yesterday.

In the meantime, PNP Vice President, Mikael Phillips, is dismissing claims by the Police that his party agreed to stage their final meeting on Sunday night.
